Manufacturing

Each unique piece of furniture we supply is handmade here in Lancashire by time served craftsmen using only the finest materials. Unlike most of today’s mass produced furniture we stay loyal to our traditions and each piece is manufactured to the highest standard to produce a beautiful finish that will stand the test of time. The making of a genuine Chesterfield takes a combination of time, highly skilled time served craftsmen and top quality materials. All these factors contribute to the finished piece of furniture which will not only stand the test of time but age and use also enhances the comfort of this design icon.

The Frame

All our furniture is made with the highest quality solid seasoned beech hardwood frame which forms a very strong and durable base. In construction all the frames are assembled by hand in the traditional way using glue, screws and dowels to form very strong joints and a base for your furniture that will last for a life time.

Our occasional range and reproduction office range are stained and highly polished to the colour of your choice. The wood colour finish options in our occasional and reproduction office range are mahogany, yew, light oak, medium oak and dark oak. We can also supply our occasional range in a natural finish with no stain.

Foams and Fillings

Incorporated in our furniture is a selection of foams and fibre fillings, all made to the highest standard and comply with strict European Fire and Safety Regulations. Peace of mind when choosing one of our suites is taken care of, due to the strict Regulations we use when choosing our materials. All cushions are hand stuffed using the finest foam or fibre pads depending on the design you have chosen.

The Leather

As leather is a natural product there are no two hides the same. There are hundreds of colours, styles and leather finishes available to the upholstery market. Here at Chesterfields Direct we have handpicked what we believe to be the best quality and value selection for the most discerning customer. All leather carries natural markings and the superior leather range being natural finished leather takes on a distressed appearance and shows all natural markings across the furniture.

Upholstery

When all the handpicked materials are in place the upholsterer can begin to construct your furniture. This age old process takes time and a great deal of skill. Deep buttoning is a highly skilled task which is practiced by all our craftsmen who have up to 40 years experience. We do not manufacture on a production line, each piece is made from start to finish by one man and the greatest of attention is taken into detail to make sure each piece is as individual as the next. The finish of the furniture is a very important part of the process and after hand studding every piece individually, the antiquing process is applied to achieve the distinct Chesterfield two tone affect which can be viewed on the antique leathers traditionally used for hundreds of years on the classic English Chesterfield.
